Dad, I don’t read your blog.
“Dad, I don’t read your blog.”
Those words didn’t really hurt me at all. It’s more like they emotionally devastated me to the core of my very being. I’m joking of course…sorta. But, it got me thinking. What about all the times I skim over an email…or better yet, read the first part…and the last part. The beginning, and the end. I guess even worse would be if it could be said from us to God, “Dad, I don’t read Your blog.” I don’t think I’m alone in this. In fact, check out this piece of info I found.
I cnduo’t bvleiee taht I culod aulaclty uesdtannrd waht I was rdnaieg. Unisg the icndeblire pweor of the hmuan mnid, aocdcrnig to rseecrah at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno’t mttaer in waht oderr the lterets in a wrod are, the olny irpoamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rhgit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whoutit a pboerlm. Tihs is bucseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey ltteer by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Aaznmig, huh? Amazing, huh? We see the first part and the last part, and we actually “get,” the middle part. In that paragraph, yes…In the story of Jesus, that would be…no. One example is what one church calls, “Chreaster.” It’s that idea of millions of people coming to church at Christmas… the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, (The beginning) and then, interestingly, millions more people show up at church for Easter…the time of year we celebrate the other, “end,” of the story… the death and resurrection of Christ.
What if…just for one year…things were to reverse, and people were to put more focus on the stuff between those two epic events? Alot happened between those two points. I mean…listen to some of the stuff we’d be missing. Jesus raised his friend Lazarus from the dead. Jesus turned water into wine at a party, and gave a blind man his sight back. He quieted a storm, (Who couldn’t use that one) and demonstrated a life lived fully, freely, selfless, and holy. He taught a mercy that knew no depth, a peace beyond comprehension, and a boundless love that’s still changing lives today. Just the red letter stuff alone is worth the price of the book. No disrespect to the cradle or the cross…it’s just the other “cr” that bears reading. It’s what my mom might call the, “crux,” of the whole thing. The middle part.
Sure, it may be a stretch to compare God’s word to a blog. (But, He did write the first, and probably longest, text message) Open it, and we find treasures. “I came that you might have life, and life abundant.” “He who’s seen Me has seen the Father.” “And this is eternal life, that they may know You the only true God, and Your Son, whom You have sent.” “Love one another as I have loved you.”
“These words I speak to you are life.” That’s just for starters folks. Perhaps at the bottom of God’s blog page would be what you see at the bottom of every blog page…Contact Us. May we all do exactly that, this season…and always.
For privacy, I purposefully didn’t disclose which of my two sons actually said, “Dad, I don’t read your blog,”… but it wasn’t my youngest.
