God’s Top DJ

It was early afternoon, before anyone else arrived at the retreat center on the coast of North Carolina when I decided to grab my headphones and go for a run on the beach. I had a conversation with God. It went like this:

Me: Lord, I have a lot of things on my mind. God: I know Me: Lord, is it just me or does it seem like there’s alot of stuff happening right now? God: No problem. I got this. Me: Well, it would help if I could just know You’re there. God: Trust me. I Am. Me: Is there any kind of sign or something you can show me. God: Sure, “Look to your left. I made that.” Me: (looking at the ocean) Oh yeah. Right. Well, that’s pretty impressive, but back to my problems. There’s many. God: I’m listening. Me:  Well, first of all, how could you know everything about me and still love me? God: It’s who I am. It’s what I do. I’ll never stop. Me: Yeah but…. God: Look around again. I placed you exactly here at this exact time to speak these exact words to you. Me: Lord, but how do I know it’s You? God: Trust me. It is, and I’ll continue to show you…as long as it takes. Me: But how do I know it’s not just me telling myself You love me.

This conversation continued for the next 1/2 mile or so. At this point, God’s heard enough, and decides to slightly move his pinky. When he does, it sets off a chain reaction in heaven. The winds and the seas obey Him. With every resource, imaginable and unimaginable, at His disposal, He looks over to one of his best DJs, “DJ Dave,” who has one headphone hanging off his ear, a sea of turntables, and seems to be equipped to manage thousands of music selections, on earth and in heaven, at once. God says,“Hey Dave, Stefan’s still signed up for Pandora isn’t he?” “You know he is,” Dave replied. “Well turn his headphones up a little.” The next words I heard weren’t simply in my spirit, but audible through my headphones. It began, “Do you hear me? I’m talking to you. Across the water. Across the deep blue ocean. Under the canopy sky.” Click here to hear what I heard.

I didn’t hear much of the rest of the song. I think God’s voice drowned it out. Some might say it was Jason Mraz. But he was only the vessel. God actually spoke through a donkey once too. Another time a burning bush. This time unmistakably, leaving no room at all for me to doubt, He chose my language, music. He first asked the question, “Do you hear me?” Before I had a chance to question if He was actually talking to me, He says, “I’m talking to you.” Just to make it clearer and even a little funny, he clarified, “across the water.” Well, that could’ve been any water, I thought. “Across the deep blue ocean Stefan.” At this point, I’m beginning to run out of doubts…and problems. Just before I asked, “Which ocean?” it’s like He knew my thoughts or something as He replied (patiently), “The one under the open sky.” Oh….. That one. “The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.” Psalm 29:3 He loves us. He’s said it. He means it. And that’s all to it. Read Psalm 29 and listen for yourself. God’s top DJ (creation) may be playing a song for you right now. You may or may not have to turn your headphones up.
